FASTER IS BETTER
Mar 21, 2025Many of us have been told to slow down to enjoy life. Many of us have been cautioned that if we work too fast we will make mistakes. Many of us have been told that our quick-talking ways are hard to understand.
There seems to be an ingrained bias in our culture against speed.
Yet so many of us crave it that I decided to investigate why going fast feels like fun.
Going fast, for me, is the best way to access my intuition. The decisions I make swiftly and without over thinking are the decisions that have paid off the biggest for me. I fell in love with my husband on our second date. I committed to buying a second home after a brief visit to the area we wanted to be. And I started my entire platform here at Practical Spirituality based on a few ideas and a few days of work. In short, I got clear and then I took action. Swiftly.
When I slow down, it’s often because of fear. I worry what people will think of me. I worry whether my content is any good. I worry whether the ideas I espouse are too woo woo. And all that worry doesn’t help me; it only slows me down.
Here is where life started showing me the way. When I sat to write my first book, I completed it in under a month. I found pockets of time every day to write and I kept at it until the draft was complete. It felt inspired. It felt guided. And it felt really, really good. So good that I wondered if I was going too fast. (Fear.)
I surrendered all my fears around speed and got back into life with a new idea: Faster is better. My first, gut reaction is usually the best. And the decisions I make with choiceless ease are for me.
I now live my life in the fast lane. Here is what I mean.
When I get inspired I go all in. When I feel fear, I pull over and deal with my fears. When I notice indecision, I know that I want more. And when I am in doubt, I do the next thing that excites me the most.
This form of working, which I call intuitive, has led to outsized success for me. It brings me a lot of joy as well, and it seems to guide me forward easily and effortlessly.
Where are you holding on to old ideas that make you stop and fret? Where are you buying into the old adage that slowing down is better than speeding up? Where could you adopt an attitude of speed and have more fun?
